Just wear sunglasses!
I'm unable to adjust the gamma or brightness on my laptops LCD. Has anyone considered purchasing a roll of cheap window tint and cut it down to size and stick it to the lcd? Does anyone see any reason why that will not work?

I did try GammaControl I can't get it to work with my laptops video card. The manufacture doesn't provide w2k drivers which provide gamma control on the driver.
It's a great program I wish it worked on my setup.
I have a Toshiba Sattallite Pro 470cdt witha Chips on Technologies 6555 chipset. Toshiba never made a w2k driver and the MS drivers do not seem to allow me to do gamma control however period. The original manufacture 'Chips On' has a 2k driver which has a gamma feature in the display properties applet however It simply will not work right my with laptop. =(
I purchased a 5pk of transparent/colored plastic dividers from Avery which seem to be working well. I'm going to get it cut down and install this weekend.
Yeah, I agree with Cris. The reason why a lotta' people use MediaEngine http://www.mediaengine.org It has an auto drimmer function, that you can set for whatever time to start or stop. Plus, if you need more than just that, you can also tell to change to a night time type skin (black), that reduces brightness also.
I'm sure you already tried this, but have you tried using your function brightness and/or contrast keys? Some laptops have software built-in that can control brightness, so maybe you're using that and not realizing you've got hardware brightness control. But assuming you've tried that, try going into your BIOS (restart and go into your laptop's "setup"). I don't know about Toshibas, but some laptops have BIOS options for brightness. If you're laptop's just gotten into a "funk", turning brightness controls on or off might knock it outta' it's funk and give you control back. Now one word on laptops... programs that can "dim" the brightness of the screen like MediaEngine are fine, but most laptops (like Pocket PCs) will still produce the same brightness even with a black screen, due to the way they're backlit. (that's why hardware brightness control is so important to my GPS Pocket PC) Hope this info helps.
I've tried just about everything.. afaik this model only has gamma adjustments in the driver an no function key. The avery transparent colored divder has helped a lot but it's still not dark enough.
if you can hunt down a red tented plastic it would do the job for you
