I don't see a lot else going on here other than this becoming yet another thread full of people bickering over trivial points that are not related to MP3Car.

I guess I just don't get it. Do something then tell is about it, or ask us how to do something, but don't just blow your own trumpet about your fancy car, please...
Well put Chris. I guess I was just looking for some ideas on what to do with this platform? I have been staring at this car and jotting down notes for ages now and it comes to a point where the most useful thing is another set of eyes. Thats why I would really like some peoples wild and/or crazy ideas for what to do with this thing. Not to mention I really wanted to use this as a "log" as well. I dont see anywhere here to keep a public log and that is really something I would like.

Hey stealth...nice car. My dad has one too, but has had problems with the car's computer and he's still waiting for the console to arrive from germany. Anyways, when sitting on the back, I always thought it be cool that the rear center armrest had a flip monitor (touchscreen even). Dont know it will work, but you know how the main center armrest has a big space after the first two tops?, well you could prob put the carputer there facing up for easy access (also since that space keeps things real nice and cool, and you could pass the cables for all the peripherals by simply drilling the underpart of the console). Also, replace the normal cd reader (the one under the screen) with the sony (?) slot-loading cdrw/dvd.

Also, change the factory monitor with a touchscreen, but program the bottons on the right with common windows commands. Like, one botton has the cntrl-alt-del command or the other alt-F4 command and so on.

Right now, nothing more comes to mind, but good luck and kudos.

Oh yea...I would reccomed you start your own log somewhere else and link us to the site cause its gonna be an ugly log if you keep it here. But, of course, keep us posted on the BIG changes.

    That's a nice car!

I know what you mean when you say you're not rich, but spend a lot of money on cars. I own a car, a van and 4 motorcycles myself, but that doesn't mean I'm rich! Just that I don't spend a lot of money on other things.

And I work very hard. I only finished highschool and started working at 16. Maybe it was luck, but now I own half of a company, so I can do what I like a bit, and earn a buck doing that. My age is 25. No, I don't deal drugs, my parents were poor and divorced when I was 7, I have paid for everything myself.

I like the idea of a diary here, as many people lack the courage to keep it up all the way.

Now on the car. The stealth idea is what drove some dicisions in my project. Steering wheel controls are a good input device. A touchscreen that is nicely integrated looks very factory too (some very nice examples on this forum). At a junkyard you could find some buttons for options that were not installed in your car, but that can be used for the computer too.

Hope you keep it up and don't listen too much to those jealous bastards here

C'mon you guys, if he tells you too little, he's vague, if he tells more, he's showing off! WTF?

Success is not something to be ashamed of, if you really earned it. I consider that the case until PROVEN otherwise. We all could be liars here, it's the freaking internet!

Yeah man... these are the types of ideas I was thinking of. Listen to this one - how about a screen in each headrest for video and whatnot and keep the controlling touchscreen in the center REAR armrest so each person has their own controller as a touchscreen. Im seriously thinking about doing that.

ok...I was also thinking about the headrest screens but if you do that you would have to border the screens with the same wood panel the car comes in.

I also thought of having the rear as touchscreen but I dont quite know why, but I prefer it to be normal with the controls just under the a/c controls for the rear.

Oh yea...remember you dont wanna fill the car with monitors cause then it wont look stock. Also, just in case you forgot, get a better battery.

I don't see the big deal, all of that stuff you described has been done before. You're most likely going to end up with a xenarc and an opus and running frodo or something similar. Wow.

The ones that went to college are just the same as others. Experience is always going to eclipse education in my opinion.
I agree this is somewhat true about the misconception about college == big $$$, but if you are working in the field while going to college, you have a good idea what salary is achieveable. If you get out of college with a degree, and still can't get a full time job, its discouraging. Many of my CIS/CS classmates are in that boat without a full time job, some are lucky to have part time jobs in the fields, while others have gone elsewhere non-IS related.

In the IT field, experience will help in your job search, but most employers are also looking for a college degree and certificates. On top of that, you are competeing with X number of people that have been out of work as long or longer then you. Experience is only one part of the equition, but I have seen instances where I had the more experience then the other canidates, but didn't have the degree at the time and didn't get hired because of the degree.

That's good, just the delivery of your post and other posts pointed in that direction. Welcome to the community!

In my personal opinion, its great you want to do as planned in your project, but most projects don't reach their full list of stuff they need to do. Most of us are really in a sense hobbiest here that tinker with this stuff, and usually by ourselves.

Your approach is very much more business like with some wish list kind of items, but do-able if you have the manpower. I was just waiting for the RFP on my desk. heh. What kind of timeline you looking at?
