    M10000 boot problem

OK guys, I have a problem.

I had a working system for 10 months or so, and I was changing some hardwares. Like OPUS from ITPS+PW70 and laptop HDD from desktop.
I got to the point where everything is working in my room. Then I had to put
that off because I didn't have time. After a week or so, I power up the same system but monitor does not work.
    Here is what is happening.

1)When power button is pushed, CPU fan turns and HDD seems to be working.
2)Monitor comes comes on, "PC" shows up, then "power off" will show on screen. (This is Xenarc)
3)That is all. At this point, only thing I can do is to turn off PC by holding down power button for 10sec.

I did some research and tried,
    1) checked different RAM sticks. Same result.
    2) checked with diffrerent monitor and cables. Same result.
    3) used PCI video card. Same result.
    4) checked different HDD and cables. Same result.

I have not tried different PSU yet.

I am missing something? Is there something I can try? or is the mobo dead?

ew, other then checking for shorts in the motherboard.....like if something is grounding out somewhere......my bet though is that it is the power supply. I barely ever have spare atx psus sitting around, so like you, this is usually the last thing i ever check.

.....and if you havent done so try leaving the power disconnected from the psu long enough for the capacitors to loose power

I'm sure you tried this, but just in case, have you tried unplugging the power to the the power supply?

I had this problem once, and I don't know WHY it happened, but unplugging the power seemed to reset everything and it worked again. No problems since.

What about sounds? Do you have the windows startup sound enabled? If so, you should hear that coming out of the soundcard when you start windows right. Worth checking out.

Got a keyboard on there? Maybe try pressing [del] or [f2]a bunch of times to get into your bios.

I know you've probably tried these things, but just in case you haven't, doesn't hurt.

    good luck

I had the exact same problem but only occasionally when resuming from standby. I never did figure out what was causing the issue. I now use hibernate which works well unless my USB DVD rom is connected. For some reason the BIOS stops partially thru the RAM check when resuming from hibernate with the USB DVD connected.

I'm still curious what the root cause is.

I was hoping it doesn't come to this, since I have to buy one...

That's something I can try to narrow down the proble. I need to try that.

It seems like a lot of m10000 have this problem, but the cause seems to be different. Some say RAM, some say video card, PSU, etc. I just hope it's not too expensive...

Thanks for the reply guys. I will check to see if I can hear anything.

    Here are some updates.

    Same setup as above,
    1) I did not hear anything from line out.
    2) I hooked up USB sound card, but it did not turn on.
This same device used to work fine.
    3) Keyboard light did not come on.
    4) I removed RAM, then turn on the PC. No beeps or anything. Just CPU fan turing.

I am starting to thing PSU is the cause.
To test with another PSU, I have to wait till tommorrow. I maybe able to
    find one at the office.

If you come up with any idea, please let me know. At this point I will try anything.

    doh! haha.

hey ryuandwings, you have to have an extra PSU laying around... what the heck computer are you using right now ? Just unplug the atx connector and the hard drive power connector and the power switch connector and you should be set.

Sorry I can't give any better advice, but this one's a toughie.
