I plugged it into a composite feed on my Sony TV (UK PAL native + also supports NTSC).... then plugged in a 12v power adaptor I had hanging around.
End result = It (kinda) works!
Wide angle - yup
Reverse image - yup
The picture quality is slightly 'grainy' - maybe it was exagerated as I was testing it on a 24" TV rather than a 7" TFT or due to the NTSC handling. We shall see...
I pointed it out of the window and the image went all 'white' due to the bright sunlight. Pointed it back inside and the image faded back in to view.
In pitch black conditions, it didn't provide any image. When I pointed a torch at the far end of the room, it picked up the area being illuminated.
I'll know when I get round to installing it all if the reverse lights provide enough light to use it effectively. Otherwise it'll be a case of either up-rating the reverse light bulbs or finding a way of using the night-vision/infrared feature from another source.

The camera image is only going to be as good as the chip that is processing the image, that is why a professional camcorder uses three high end 1/3" image sensors(one for each r,g,b) & costs over 2 grand. a good ccd camera will use a sony 1/3" superhadd chip that provides a true 480-520 lines of resolution (not digitally enhanced, but true optical/digital coversion) in real time, & will be usable down to .02lux before infrared assist,a good ccd camera will start over $200 & the chip alone is probably about $50-$60 at the wholesale level. a usb camera will use a cheap 1/4 genric image sensor that probably cost about $3, & a "high end" usb cam may use a $12 chip & extra fancy software....
what this translates to in usable terms is that a webcam will suck at night compared to a good ccd camera, it will suck when it's to bright out compared to a good ccd camera, it will suck in the rain, it will suck pretty much all around compared to a good ccd camera, if you are using the camera for anything critical you will not want to depend on a usb cam, if your just playing around with it, it can be a cheap way to play with cameras, but keep in mind that you are paying for a cheaper camera that may rely on software to enhance the image, & the software & packaging are probably costing you more than the actual camera.
as far as viewing on a pc & recording, & mirror image funtions etc... I have seen a 4 camera multiplexor on ebay that was small, could mirror image any or all cameras (ccd's) inputs, display one image or do picture in picture or quad display, while also having pcr software allowing loop recording to a hardrive when the pc is on...& from what I understand will also funtion as a stand alone multiplexor without the pc running. I plan on getting one of these when I add add'l cameras to my minivan.
The bottom line here is that a $89 ccd camera will give you a much better & more useable image than a $150 usb camera as far as I know & if anyone here knows of a usb webcam that uses a high quality 1/3" super hadd chip I would like to know about it, last time i checked you simply can not get a really good chip in any webcam & worse than that, you can't even find a ccd camera with a high end superhadd chip in a mirror image configuration, there are none to be had, not at any price, sure you may find a decent mirror image ccd that does at least have a 1/3" chip, but not anything close to 480 res. & no where near down to .02 lux.
these image sensor chips are as varied as pc processors & belive me they are not all the same, I could go on & on here, but if the camera is important to you then research the chip, & I would not consider buying a camera that doesn't at least give you the chip specs.
