only reason i would see for a case would be objects touching the comp... if you can be 100% sure nothing would touch it, metal wise then i wouldnt worry bout it
I've been contemplating getting rid of my case. Its pretty banged up from the adjustments i needed to make to get my video card installed. Im thinking of mounting the mobo horizontally behind the glove box, having the hard drive flat mounted in the box and moving the power supply under the seat next to the inverter. Is there anything i should think of before attempting this? There is a vent just under the glovebox i could reroute to promote airflow so cooling shouldnt be an issue. Would there be any issues with extending the PS cables 5 feet or so? If so i'd imagine i could find room for it behind the glovebox as well. Is there a reason NOT to ditch the case cause all on the up n up so far. Oh yea i'll buy a slot load dvd and mount it under the radio.

i just got rid of my case because it wouldn't fit in the storage compartment that i had to put my computer in. it is the way it had to be, the only thing that is a little akward is i can't just bring the computer into the house.. without unscrewing and uninstalling it, of course![]()
EMI? Its pretty important reason to think about.
I dont think EMI will be an issue considering my case is top free currently. It'll be mounted to plastic. Taking the pc out is already an issue for me. I currently have my case screwed to my bass box. Yesterday i had a corrupt boot file and needed to take it in the house. The box is too big to be removed with the pc on top and the pc was hard to get to without moving my whole trunk around basically lol. PCAnywhere is my friend![]()
had epia mounted, w/o the case or ground, behind the dashboard - never had problems with power or electrical noise in the speakers. I dont see why going case-less will be a bad idea.
EDIT: here is the photo of the install...

i WISH i had the room behind my screen to put there . I doubt it will fit.
well if you think it is like this in stock car you are wrong,Originally Posted by Sonicxtacy02
i cut off everything that i did not need, relocated radio (you can see it on the lower part of the console now...before it was right where the epia is), same goes to the switches
took time and some serious dash modification but well worth fitting 10.4" screen

I had my EPIA mounted caseless in my glovebox of my A4. no problems with it related to the caselessness, i just mounted it to a piece of hardwood with standoffs and mounted my laptop drive to the bottom of the peice of hardwood. The only problem was reaching over the Mobo to plug something in/out was always nerveracking, for fear of clipping a resistor or something.
