    XMDirect Cable Info? (USB? Serial!)

Hello All. My XMDirect is on the way, and I was wondering if You guys could post wire diagrams of all the cables made. Also I wanted to know if there has been anything done with USB yet? Cause I have a crap load of Belkin Gold USB Cables.

Way too much info for me. I heard some things there about USB, But I didn't find any wire diagrams. Maybe I should just get a USB 2 Serial dual adaptor, so I can add some serial ports. My Shuttle only has one serial port. But it has 4 USB Ports and 2 FireWire ports. I'd really like to make a direct USB cable using my Belkin **** here.

I am not aware of an easier way to do it then making the serial cable and useing a usb adapter. check out this thread and i put pics up of my cable on my site under carputer -> xm in my sig. Then just use a serial to usb, no one in the thread seemed to have any issues with the usb.

    Hope this helps

Well, I found some USB-serial adaptors which were just wire harness's. No computer boards or anything. So what I was wanting to make is instead of a XM to Serial and use a Serial to USB ADAPTOR. Find out how to make my own Serial to USB Adaptor, and make a XM to USB Cable instead....

    Looking at that info now.

they discussed it in that thread, and came to the conclusion that it was not feasible, but take a look I did not read that part throughly as I was not planning on doing the usb part.

Well, they said the Serial to USB adaptor works just fine. So I'd like to find out how to adapt the cable from XM to Serial to USB. Even if I have a buldge in the wire from whatever I need, thats ok. Just so that there is no other connections, its one wire, XM to USB with a Serial to USB adaptor inside the harness.

So pretty much what I need is working wire diagram for the XM to Serial cable, and a working Serial to USB adaptor diagram. Then I'm sure I can hack up a few cheap cables I have, build a working one, and then build a full out Belkin XM to USB Cable

Then after you have those connected you just need to find a source of power which can come from your PC power supply. Pinouts below.

    XMD -- Power supply
    pin 6 = 12v
    pin 7 = 12v
    pin 8 = gnd
The pins on the USB are as follows:
    Pin No.______Name___Description
    1___________VCC____+5voltage (max. 500mAmp)
    2____________D-_____Data - (Input to computer)
    3____________D+____Data + (Output from computer)
    4___________GND____Ground for voltage

So with that in mind...couldn't I just use the GND, D- and D+ wires on the USB for the Pins 1, 2, and 3 on the other cable? I dunno, I'm sure I can make a full out harness for XMDirect -> USB if I can get the two diagrams of the XM Serial cable and Serial USB Adaptor.
