    Random Freeze Ups

Hey everyone, I'm close to installing my carpc into my car and have been running the system on my bedroom floor for a few weeks now. Everything is (was) going great untill about a week ago when I statred running into a random freeze-ups. My system specs are:

    Via M-900
    512 mb pc2100
2.5" 1.4 gig laptop harddrive (system disk)
    2.5" 80 gig laptop harddrive (music/movies/etc)
    60 watt morex psu
    slimeline laptop cdrom
    usb keyboard
    win xp pro sp2
    lilliput lcd touchscreen

Everything runs fine, and from what i can tell the freeze ups are very random. I've checked the windows event manager and it doesnt list any errors before the freeze up. I ran real vnc from my other computer to see if maybe it was jsut the lcd screen locking up, and after a while it froze up even on there and stopped responding. I'm stumped. The system drive still has a good amount of space left on it, since i used xplite to remove a good amount of stuff, but nothing to crazy. Any ideas would be awesome. I'm stumped. Thanks in advance!

try stripping out the cd rom then the 80gb hdd(or both at the same time, make sure the power is off), and boot see if u still get the problem, if not then its the psu. btw if it still does that it might be heat.

Definitely the PSU. Not having an adequate PSU will cause many problems. Random freezes, crashes, blue screens, I even believe that the reason my touchscreen stops working (just the touch part the video never cuts out) is because I only have a 150watt OPUS.

Hmmmm that totally sucks, I'll have to try it later this afternoon when the girlfriend is around, thanks so much for the help so far though.

I had the exact same symptoms with my m9000. My roommate had the too with his m10k. These freeze ups occured when I used the travla c134 case with its power supply plugged in the wall. Same freeze ups with the carnetix plugged in the car. It drove me bonkers trying to figure out the problem.
I never did figure it out, but since I started using my nlited version of xp I haven't seen a freeze up.
I tried bigger and smaller sticks of ram, different hard drives, tracked temperature. You name it.
That's actually the main reason i moved from media portal to frodoplayer. I thought it was their software for a while.
I really beleive it was something weird in windows. Perhaps a combination of drivers or strange scenarios. I could never recreate it on demand, but all I had to do was leave it running for an hour. It would freeze at any point within in a hour. A quick reboot would give it another hour or so. So it wasn't overheating.
Never figured it out, but I'll suggest try nlite. Whatever the evil component was it's been removed by nlite.

I'll have to try nlite this afternoon, but as an update, I changed out the stick of cheeseball ram and put in a name brand, and it seems to be working flawlessly. Thanks for all the ideas, if anything comes up I'll keep you posted.
