I have a few questions about the VIA EPIA MII 12000 1.2Ghz Motherboard I was hoping some one could answer.
1: What cpu core does it have? Is it the Nehemiah or Eden?
2: I am building it to use mainly for mp3, video playback using windows xp or XPe (if I can get it to work). Does it have enough CPU and Video power to handel divx playback, dvd from hdd playback, mp3 playback using windows media player 10 with visuals?
3: Can I boot Windows Xp or XPe from the CF card slot? I know there have been may threds on this but what is the current standing?
4: Can anyone tell me about the sound quality?
Any other user input from MII 12000 owners?

Im pretty sure it has the nemiah core
It has plenty of power for dvd, divx, mp3 gps and i dont know about visuals cuz i really dont use any fancy ones just the bars and waves and it does that no problem.
don't know about booting from cf last i heard was no
i dont have any complaints about the sound quality, i dont have a super good stereo like my old car so i couldnt tell you for sure but it definitely isnt bad.

Testing within the next week or so.
It has 6 channel sound. Adding " Rear Speaker, Center Channel, Subwoofer, Front Speaker " to your playcontrol panel for sound controls.
I have this board running off an Opus 150W and 1 GB of ram. The OS is XP Pro may switch to Media Center for a test. I like the speed of the board so far. I have developed my own application using VB6 and it runs it fine using WMP10 embeded in the application. It plays Video of all formats smoothly. I plan on doing tests encoding DVD to SVCD in the future aswell as mp3 ripping speeds. If you like i can keep you posted with any updates i have. Just PM me an email. I am really interested in the FC boot because of the tempratures in Canada, so ill be testing that very soon.
I am going to be putting this board in my car within the next few weeks (pending the status of the rest of the install)....
As for SQ I have no idea but I'm betting it won't be as good as it could be with a better sound card. I am going to be running the Audigy ZX 2 Notebook (PCMCIA) for the optic out to go to the Alpine PXA-H700 processor with 3 optic ins...
I have been using it on my desk so far and haven't had a problem with it....running 512 mb of ram.
It seems a little bit quicker than my M10000 that I had in the car before...but that could just be me

have you actualy run it yet with the Audigy 2 ZS notebook card? just wondering cause I was planing on getting one for the system i'm building but just noticed on their website that the min specs for it is a 1.2Ghz or equiv AMD or pentium and I have an MII10000 which I heard is more the equiv of around a 600Mhz pentium.
Everyone has already answered your questions pretty much. I have the MII 12000 and I like it so far. I had some problems getting the sound to work in Forodplayer, but it was easy to fix once I figured it out. With any via board don't expect to get 800x480 resolution without a pci video card. I'm running mine from a Opus 90W psu. So far, so good.
