Thread: Remote Starter & Carpc Startup

Yes.....I have it set-up like that on my car....and I have a DEI

All you would need to do is have a 12v lead from an ignition source run to the power wire on the startup/shutdown controller....I also had a toggle switch run in line there hidden in the glove box so that I could disable the computer from turning on for when I had it valet parked or taken in for service or something along those lines....

I had the same question becasue i am installing a viper 791 alarm in mine on tuesday. Hopefully i can get them to do the remote start on my manual transmition.

for remote start on a manual (which I have as well....)

there is a part that is a cluster poo of parts and wires....

you pull up, you stop, you set the ebrake, leave the vehicle on, get out, hit the remote start button on the keyfob, then hit it again and it will turn the car off....but if the alarm ever goes off or a door is ever opened before the next time you remote start it, it wont allow it to be remote started....that way it can check to make sure that it's still in neutral.....i believe that's what the process was......it's a piece made by perephrial.....which is part of AAMP which is the parent company of Stinger....

otherwise....there's no way to guarantee that your car is in neutral....I don't have this on my car...mine is set to just see that the ebrake is set....I've popped a 300amp fuse for my system once by remote starting thinking that the car was in neutral....luckally once the fuse popped it killed the car.....the starter was trying to turn the motor AND the tranny.....that's a LOT of pull....lol

LOL, that reminds me. I had a remote start on my Passport (manual). I installed it, I just bypasses the clutch pedal switch. (Don't try this at home!)
Well, it was fine for me, I made darn sure it was in neutral and had the park brake set when I got out.
Lo and behold...my wife used the truck one day...well, you can imagine the rest of the story.

...Gotta tell ya' anyway,
Next morning I hit the start button, about 4 seconds later I hear this crash. It had started and ran into the back of (our own) Minivan. (about 20 feet in front) Minor damage. But I thought, thank God the van was there, otherwise it would've run clear down the street.
Thankfully nobody got hurt (or killed!)
Anywho, DON"T do what I did!

is there any way to have it so when I hit start on the remote starter it will fire up the carpc and boot up like normal?

Yes. Just use the "Pulse Start" feature. It will take either a +12V "pulse" from your car alarm or a +5V pulse (from something like a WOL device), or a contact closure from a relay, and will "start up like normal". You can see the details of how to use the Pulse Start feature HERE.
