    MiniPCI / MiniAGP cards...

I have been considering this motherboard, which has options for either a MiniPCI or MiniAGP slot, and I have been looking for what options are available for MiniPCI or MiniAGP.

    Motherboard:

I was looking for a MiniPCI FM Tuner card, and instead I came across this, a MiniPCI TV Tuner card:

I have no information other than what's up there, but I thought it was interesting.

Has anybody else looked at MiniPCI / MiniAGP cards?

    Sounds interesting, no?

I looked into miniPCI cards. The problem was finding a place to buy them. Usually only OEM/Manafacuteres purchased these, unless anybody else knows differently.

You can usually find MiniPCI/MiniAGP boards at places that cater to embedded systems - real embedded systems, not just Mini-ITX type boards.

Such is the case with www.bwi.com - they carry the board I've been looking at, as well as the optional MiniPCI/MiniAGP cards.

    And actually, I just found what I was looking for - a TV Tuner / FM Tuner MiniPCI card, made for this motherboard;

Bleh.. that card won't work, as the FM Tuner is only an option on the BT879 chipset, not the BT878..

Going to have to look elsewhere for a MiniPCI FM Tuner cards..

    Here we go:

The LR219F MiniPCI MCE Mini FM tuner card is both a TV tuner and FM tuner (stereo) in one, and it's Microsoft Media Center 2004 (and presumably 2005) certified.

I needed a MiniPCI wireless LAN card. I had a hard time finding one until I pulled off the can of a D-Link PCI card and noticed there was a Mini PCI card on the full sized PCI card. I desoldered the antenna, pulled it out of the Mini PCI slot, and plopped it into the device I needed that card fo, and Viola, it asked for the install disk and I was up and running.

A couple of computers I looked at (for home media center) have MinIPCI slots and are already filled with TV tuner and wireless cards.

The LR219F MiniPCI MCE Mini FM tuner card looks like something I would want. How would one go about purchasing one?

Actually, MiniPCI wireless cards are relatively easy to find - there's a ton of various models on eBay, for one.

Since MiniPCI is a standard, I can pretty much pop any MiniPCI card in a MiniPCI slot with reasonable expectations that it'll work... although sometimes there are physical size limitations on some boards.

I wanted to find a MiniPCI card that was primarily an FM/AM radio tuner, and optionally a TV tuner, so I wouldn't have to put that capability on a full-size PCI card.

WiFi wireless I'm not worried about, I can plug in a USB one easily for when the car's in the garage.

I'm considering a USB GPRS or CDMA cell modem from MultiTech for the embedded always-available wireless capability.

I have an e-mail in with a salesperson at the LifeView USA site to find out if they have a distributor for the cards...

You may also want to take a look at some of their other MiniPCI tuner cards.. I think they have OTA HDTV ones, too.

Here comes a stupid question. What is a mini-pci card? Is it just a small pci card that will fit in a normal pci slot? Or do you have to have a certain motherboard to support it? I did a quick search on google but the page that looked like it had the answers was down.
