Just remember that if you go with a Via solution that you can't get the native resolution for most 7" monitors out of the onboard video. And you will probably come to find out, as I did, that the onboard audio won't cut it! After I bought the Via MII 10000 I discovered this, solution being to run powerstrip and buy an Audigy 2 NX. And this was after lurking for about 4 months on the boards.

Great questions and do your research before you buy!

I mean, doesn't the ITPS cut it down to 60watts? Not enough for what you've got planned.

That 400 buck is for the PC, you have to spend another 300-600 for LCD VGA monitor.

Anyone got any views on this mobo from MSI? http://www.msi.com.tw/program/produc...il.php?UID=619
I am after a uATX with firewire for DVD as i don't like USB2 for streaming (and the SATA might be nice for a hot pluggable HDD). I looked at the nforce info site (http://www.nvidia.com/object/motherboards.html#msi) and it says the MSI K7N2GM has GF4 MX graphics but this is the K7N2GM2 although i suspect it is the same but just doesn't say. There are also Albatron and Aopen boards with GF4 MX graphics but i am having trouble locating them in the UK. Incase anyone is wondering i want these grpahics as they should be able to get 800x480 and the ASUS A78X-VM has no manual CPU settings and the biostar has had issues with OPUS. I don't know if the boards i have mentioned have full CPU control except the MSI does have FSB control i am just not sure about multiplier.

i thought so. MSI manual is very good but doesnt say if the manual settings include multiplier. My desktop has an old Abit BE6-II so i used to having software CPU control so it seems wierd when i work on bioses with no manual control. Can pick upt he board from loads of places for arounf £50 and has everything i will need (can upgrade the crappyish on board graphics later but to be honest they will be fine as i wont be gaming and should be perfect for getting 800x480). I will be adding a PCI or USB2 soundcard and using the on-board for GPS and phone with headrest mounted speaker and mic. Jus tneed to find out if it will take mobile athlon ok (looking for older 2400 or slower as 2500 is around £70)

How would i go about this? I mean what kind of materials do you suggest? I bet i could cut apart all the insides of my old computer to help me make a new case, but the most important thing for me is to get it small and with a dc-dc psu. I wouldnt mind gettin an OPUS, but i know thats cutting out nearly half my budget.

If i was to get an OPUS, what kinda spec comp could i run with the 90 watt psu? if i had to pay 200 bucks for the 150, thats quite a bit of money. wouldnt leave much for case, mobo etc.

Wait, are you saying that the psu wont supply power to everything?? im soo lost right now pleas ehelp

And you said ITPS cuts my power to 60 watts, that wont do. How do you suggest i go aobut powering this computer. It seems that psu is the hardest part for me...and the more i hear, the more i think i need to spring for an OPUS.

I already have the monitor. I am already using an old computer in my car and it works, I am just trying to upgrade it to a smaller/faster computer.

This mobo looks like it has everything. I might check into the pricing and see if itll work for me. id still need a processor which would be like 75 bucks. then an opus which would be 200 im assuming. Then a case i would build. Dunno what kind of materials needed for that. Cant think of anything else i would need off the top of my head. This building my own box idea is sounding better and better....

Please continue replying to this thread as i need help and the help you guys have given me so far is invaluable.
