Switch from Comp to Deck in winter?

I'm thinking about leaving my deck in my car so that in the winter I can take the computer out and use my deck. Is it more trouble then its worth?

Thats how i have mine. Its completely removeable... My headunit has audio inputs, so i have run the wires for that, and the input to the screen, to where my Car PC sits. If i dont need the Car PC then i unplug the audio/video/power/mouse/kb etc and take it inside. Great for making adjustments or for when i leave the car at a mechanic/friends house etc

Then i just use the CD or Radio on my headunit...

Lately my western digital drive won't spin up because of the cold.

Sometimes the cold causes problems, other times it doesn't. I'd leave the HU in the car

Also for security. If i'm leaving it somewhere i dont trust, then why risk it. The theives wouldnt even know what to do with it, but i dont want them to get lucky!

yeah i dont was just thinking about the possibility of being able to remove it. My car is left outside and I just think the major cold and major heat changes would do some major damage to my computer. I dont wanna spend alot of money on something thats just gonna get wreaked.

What I did for removing the drive at least was just use a hard drive rack. Makes for updating music easy too

That's the same setup I have. A very good and cheap idea. You can get the drive bay for only 21 bucks (including 8.5% tax) in IL from compUSA.

If it's stuck, force it. If it breaks it needed replacing anyway

Yeah, but the HDD is only part of the picture - my car PC is completely backed up on my home PC so if i lost the HDD it wouldnt be a big loss, but the actual motherboard, peripherals etc and case is a labor of love

I actually had a dream my car was broken into last night. Completely stripped. I woke up in sweats, and now the car PC stays inside for a while...
