    REplacing motherboard...problems?

Allright I'm replacing my dead motherboard with a different board.

How much hassle will this cause? The motherboard will be the only new part. Same RAM, same processor, etc etc etc. Should WindowsXP load up fine? Or will I have to re-install it?

Should load fine since hard drive will be the same, and that contains XP. However just make sure you get right type of mobo since some support different types of RAM

I'd recomend you reinstall windows, because:

    1. more than likely your new mobo will require a whole different set of drivers
    2. unless you have Windows XP Volume Licensing edition you will have to re-activate your windows install because windows will "think" you tried to copy you original windows installation and put it on a different PC. More here and here
This site and this site gives you a bit more insight on how to do it

He's talking about the different types of RAM: SDRAM, DDR RAM, RDRAM. Verify which one you have and if it will work with the new mobo you intend to buy.

You will need to reinstall windows, I know this first hand. Unless its the same kind of motherboard or a very very similar one it will have a different chipset. And if windows will try to load up with the chipset it was installed with it wont work. Mobos are really the only thing that makes you have to reinstall windows. Sorry dude.

    EDIT:

He said he was using the same ram. And its very hard to find rdram and sdram these days. Its cheaper to go with ddr. ddr2 is so pointless right now. /random fact heh
