Practically you can use any remote if you have IRman and Girder.
I am using On Digital Qwerty remote, but now I'm thinking about using Pioneer credit card remote as secondary.

Get a 98' steering wheel with the up/down buttons and connect them to the serial port for volume control. That's the easy solution

IRman is the hardware - serial (IR receiver), it capture the infra red signal from the remote. Girder is the program that convert the signal. Girder program let you assign your remote button for the specific task (keyboard button, volume control, Frodo Player control, etc)

    Hi guys,

    Build your own IR Receiver

I bought one from website author for around £8 GBP. I have tested it with a couple of remotes, and it works fine. I havn't used it with girder yet, but soon.....

With 2 button and some type of SB soundcard, you can control the volumn by those button
Volume Control Solution, a good one too

Build your own and cheap IR Receiver to use along with Girder and ANY home/car radio remote controls
