    Does the plugin has something called "Device priority"? The Igor serial plugin has that setting. I have this problem before. Change the priority to higher. The default is 7, and I change to 8 which work perfect.
    You may want to try different remote to see if it capture the same code everytime (without changing priority).

    dont feel bad, the remote I wanted to use sent out too many codes as well. I am waiting for a steering wheel remote to come along to try.

    One of my Alpine remote spit out 3 or 4 different codes for each button. After play withit for a while, I figure out that some has 4 codes and some has 3 event 2 codes.What I did is capture all codes for that button and put it in 1 actions.
    Example
    Action = Volum up
    EventString: Code1A, Code2A, Code3A, Code4A
    Action = Volum down
    EventString: Code1B, code2B

    You get the idea.
    Unless each button sent out more than 1 code and they cross match with other buttons, then that remote is useless.

    Unfortunatly the buttons do crossmatch. Someone PM'd me to try the MCE plugin for girder. I need to research that. I don't even know if it will work with my reciever.

    the crappy part is the remote that i have is so slim (1/4") And it was made to control a your computer. I wonder if i get the receiver (since all i bought was remote) that it was meant to have if i can get it to work With the MCE Plugin.

    Okay, thats great except for the fact that it wont even work.

    Thats IRDA. You can't use your remotes and girder with that.

    Well, its not that homebrewed hardware is less efficient - its that the software might be polling the serial port for data, instead of responding to an interrupt. It's a hardware agnostic kinda thing.

    Put it this way - which would take more work?:
    a) checking every x minutes to see if a package you ordered has come, or
    b) putting a sign up outside that says, "UPS guy - please ring bell"

    Scenario 'a' would, of course - and that's what you're doing when you poll. Scenario 'b' is akin to an interrupt.
