nice thing! but does it work :P? why did you're friend want to throw it away?
and what are you asking for it..
Hello.. I'm sorta kinda new to the mp3car world but I've been doing some research and what not since I was going to be installing one myself in my car. The other day a cousin of mine who is an assitant manager at a local CompUSA here in the valley gives me a call. He tells me to get my *** down there because they're about to throw a working 15" LCD monitor away. I told my cousin earlier that about wanting a LCD for my car. Without wasting time I drive down there and sure enough it was a 15" LCD with no enclosure. I didn't care, it was free! can't complain there... so I stash it in my car and head home. Upon closer inspection, I notice a card mounted on the back of the LCD. I Then notice a compact flash card slot on it.. I knew this must be good.. I read the writings on the board and it read M3 Flash Mpeg decoder. whoohoo so then it hits me... I and i'm you guys have been to CompUSA or other stores where they have this LCD setup in a pretty big enclosure that continually plays ads or what not about AOL, MSN or something similar and has these buttons on the side that have pictures on them that play that specific ad when pressed. Well That's where this baby came from. I went online to try to find some documenation on it and actually found the PDF specification manual for the card. The company that makes it is DigitalView (www.digitalview.com). I went to their site and sure enough saw that they sell similar products but none to the public. At this point I knew I had something pretty rare on my hands. I tried finding similar products but had no luck. The way it works is the card comes with software (DV Studio Advanced) which I don't have but I read that you can use it to create playlists and to program the button functions which then writes it to an ordinary compact flash card. Once you insert the card, it looks for a .pll files (playlist) file and just plays through it. It supports Mpeg2 movies, MP3 audio, Mpeg still images, Jpeg still images. If you don't have the software that creates the playlists for you, All you do is dump the files on the flash card and the decoder will just play them in order. It has RCA and S-Video out and also RCA stereo outputs. The remote for it is a 8 button control that has volume, mute, next, pause, play and stop. The beauty of it is that no power inverter would be needed since it requires a 12V DC supply. A few down sides are that when a mp3 track is being played you have no visuals or track name on the LCD. So I'm just going to remove the decoder card from the LCD and use it solely for mp3 audio. The card hardly takes up any space and you can see it in the pics I posted. Tell me what you guys think... would it be worth it? is anyone interested in it? I could use some money right now hehe... here are the pics. The mpeg decoder card is the one on the left. The center card is just the LCD monitor control card. sorry for the large size and ignore the hairy hands. The PDF with all the specs is located here: http://www.narbware.com/mvflashm3-manual.pdf

my destinator map resource down permanently
CompUSA wanted to throw it away cause I guess they don't know what to do with it. It works great, I was able to copy mp3's on a flash card be able to play them. The only thing is that I need the software that allows you to make playlists for it. Without the software, the decoder card will just alphabetically play through the mp3's but of course you have play, stop, pause, next and volume controls. i emailed the company and requested for that software and still waiting for a reply. As far as how much I would give it away for.. I need you to make me an offer.
That's pretty cool. If I were you, I would mount it in a frame from Aaron Brother's and jerry rig those controls into the frame. That would enable you to market it differently and get a much higher price on eBay. The 4x6 picture frames go for $250+ and those don't even play mp3's or videos. So, as long as there are no dead pixels and no burn-in, you should be able to get some decent cash.

That is about the coolest piece of alleged trash I have ever seen I think. Nice catch d00d. I think the picture frame idea is a good one too, but I'd rather see that thing in a ride hooked to an XBOX or something. It seems to cool to just hock on EBAY.

There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with dumpster-diving. =)
Edit: um.. so long as it's not for food. Not sure why I had to clarify that.![]()
