Amd Athlon XP to Mobile Athlon Conversion

I don't know if any of you guys know this but you can make you desktop Amd Athlon processor into an Athlon Mobile or an Athlon MP processor. This may be old news to some of you guys but I just found this out today while searching on google. I thought this might be useful for some people and I decided to post it.

Here are a couple of links for you guys to look at. It’s a simple mod where you have to connect a pair of pins the L5 bridges. You can make the processor into a Mobile or a MP. This may be good for some of you guys that are running regular athlons for your carputers. It will help to reduce heat produced by the processor and help you to control power consumption. Also the first link has software that will let you adjust multiplier settings on the fly from Windows, even if your motherboard doesn't support this. There are some motherboards that don't recognize the modified processor so, I don't know if this will work with the motherboard you have. Have a look at the links, I hope this is useful for some users.

thats crazy, is this just like your Asus A7N8X-VM mod that allows non mobile motherboards to support the processor?

"because of course the Mobile Athlon was never designed for a Socket A system" i wonder if this could be why my p4 1.7 fried either my desktop psu or mobo. maybe i was supposed to do some kind of mod. I never found anything though.

I know my Abit NF7-m board support the mobile chips. Only thing is that it doesn't detect. You just need to manually set its parameters and that pretty much goes to most mobo's.

It's similar, with the mod for my board you are using wire to make the motherboard recognize the processor at its correct speed or to overclock. With this mod you can make a regular athlon act as a mobile athlon or an athlon mp.

By the way, on the subject, I had been wondering..... Will a Athlon XP-Mobile work on a regular ASUS Athlon XP motherboard, or is it designed strictly for a laptop-specific board? I guess i should try reading into this myself, but quickly, what will or wont work? I kinda was going on the belief that an XP-M was just designed to use less power <and probably just be a declocked XP>. So set me straight.

I don't think the mobile athlon works perfectly with any Asus board. With my board if you put in the processor it run just fine but the processor speed is incorrect. This is easily fixed using a small wire mod. There is a biostar board that the mobile athlons work perfectly with. (just do a search for mobile athlon)

The moblie processor does use much lesser power than a regular athlon that was my main reason for using it. As for be underclocked, no way. Many people buy mobile athlons for the sole purpose of overclocking them, since many of them come unlocked from Amd.

Edit: I ment that the mobile athlon doesn't work with any of the Asus matx boards. I'm not sure about there regular boards.
