Thanks GizmoQ - your setup sounds exactly like what I want. I'd thought about perhaps using the new VGA Dell Axim's but the screen is still too puny and I've heard they still have problems playing back fullsize video reliably. Your solution sounds perfect and cheaper to boot.

The Fujitsu 3500!...I think my search is over. This is exactly what Im looking for. I want my car-puter to be removable and still have touch screen capabilities. I have found these on ebay for under $500. The 7" VGA LCD touch screen I was planning on using for my initial install is about $400. So going tablet PC route seems cost effective to me. I have a few questions though. Which docking station are you using in the car. I have found the cradle style one for the desktop, and thought it would be to large. I have also seen the docking "strip" style one. Also...can you watch downloaded movies on it. Is the hard drive and memory easy to upgrade and find parts for? Also...is there a PCMCIA slot on the tablet itself, or just on the docking station?
Any links to useful sites or more information would be great. Im really considering buying one of these. Would be great for work, since I can take it into clients homes then back into the car.

I'm bidding on one right now on EBay, so don't go oitbidding me.

THe mini dock (what you call the "strip") is the one I use in the cars - its about 2 inches thick, has a speaker in the front (Poor quality), and provides , serial, mouse, keyboard,VGA, parellel, another USB, line out, and power. I watch downloaded movies all the time as well as using my PCMCIA DVD-RW for watching/burning DVDs and CDs. The PCMCIA is on the tablet so I usually only use it for WiFi or my phone card. The phone card is too cool cause it gives me "always on internet" and phone working thru PhoneControl. The hard drive is easily upgraded but the software isn't. Specialized pen/tablet drivers are very finicky; motherboards are varied so some drivers work while others don't (had one Canadian tablet that wouldn't play videos properly); many of the used tablets have dead spots on the screens (buyer beware); parts are rare as is Fujitsu tech support (there are several authorized service centers, but cost is high)

BE ADVISED THIS TABLET HAS STRONG PALM REJECTION - i.e., anything bigger than a size object and it won't register to the digitized.

Opps...I was bidding on 3500 but just got outbidded and the auction ended...I hope that wasn't you. If so sorry about that. I posted the link to the one I was bidding on in my previous post. I liked that it included the dock cadle, an external cd/rw drive, keyboard, carry case. I have not had much luck finding ones on ebay that come with the dock cradle or mini dock.

will the 400mhz 3400 play downloaded videos OK? I think the 3400 only has a 2mb video chipset. while the 3500 has a 4mb Rage Pro video chipset. Was wondering if you could see any difference between the two...performance and quality.

Difference is unnoticeable. Yes I download movies and watch DVDs on 3400 all the time. Gets ragged sometines with too many background apps, but otherwise, works great with powerDVD, or watching videos through Frodoplayer (Centrafuse is 50/50, some work some are slow to refresh)

OK got my 3400 the other day and installed windows 2000 on it. I tried to install Frodoplayer but could not get it to run. I kept getting registry file errors popups. I tried to install it several times with the same result. How did you install frodplayer and onto what OS. Thanks

O.K. Let's start from the beginning. Did you get all the windows updates? Does WMP work properly? Is .NET 1.1 installed?

I only installed Win2K on one machine a long time ago. Don't remember why I removed it. I ran Win98 till last summer when I found TabletPCBUZZ. These folks have the knowledge and experience to diagnose almost everything Tablet. A quick search the Fujitsu forums for 3400 & 2000 discussions:

If you answered yes to all the above questions, I would suggest contacting them with the specific error messages you're getting and see what they tell you. They helped me immensely with my XP installs.
