    Camera Black Box

In addition to reverse i want to make turn signals trigger camera inputs

As xenarcs will automatically switch to the composite when a signal is detected i was thinking of making a hardware only black box to accomplish this. only thing is im not sure if it would work ive got most of it planned out only thing i cant figure out is how to make all 3 leads selectable so that the video signal doesnt bottle neck

heres a diagram of what im trying to do ...

eg a dumbed down version of this

Maybe if you just used cable splitters to get all the cameras into the same input, but have relays so that the individual cameras are only turned on when signalling or backing up. This way only one signal is active at one time. Just can't back up and signal at the same time.

Or you could just get a 3-port video switcher. They're pretty common. And cheap.

BTW, are the turn cameras going to be directed to the left/right at a 90deg angle from the front, for seeing around corners, or down the sides, as for merging?

most of the Auto switchers are all $50+
i was hoping to have something ran all on 12v
the cheap ones require button presses to activate the different sources

pointed out of the boat vent diagonally to look to the blind spots heres a pic.
im also thinking of adding a motorized sideview mirror motor to the camera housing as suggested on one of the post here and have the cam angled out the ducts

Very nice. Those ducts are pretty slick.

Yeah, once I get around to my rearview camera, I'd like to place it on a sideview motor, like in a little dome or window on the spare tire cover.

If you can get more detailed specs on the stuff, you can probably find one that runs on 12V, but just uses a wall wart. A lot of low-power-consumption accessories run on 12V DC (and of course 4.5V, and 9V, but you can find 12V).

And I'm thinking that if you have all the cameras going to the same input on the screen, and you have the cameras activated by the turn/reverse signal, there should only be one camera/signal turned on at any given time and therefore no bottleneck.

Also keep in mind: Do you want your display to switch EVERY time you signal a turn? I personally wouldn't. This seems like a freeway or tight quarters application. Maybe you could rig a little switch on the steering wheel or column or something.

P.S. You signal when you do your reverse donuts? How considerate.
