    Movie Audio Quality through carputer

Hi guys, pretty new to the board, but have been scowering it for weeks for info. My 2005 TSX is on order, and I plan on using the AVElectronics switcher to connect my Carputer to the stock navi. In the meantime, Im ripping movies like crazy to Divx in anticipation. I am using Dr. Divx to encode them, keeping the AC-3 audio track, and encoding at 1500 bit rate. My question is, how good of audio are you guys getting with your carputers? I notice when I encode the movies, the volume is pretty low, even though the audio is at 48000 htz, and sometimes like 450 bit rate. I use BSplayer to boost the db which really help alot, but in general how to movies sound out of carputers? Also, is this a good way to encode movies for car use?

Assuming you're going to run the sound through an amp, it'll sound just fine. If you're thinking of using the line-out of the CarPC directly to the built-in head unit, it may not sound all that great (unless the OEM deck has a hefty built-in amp). The DVDs that I've ripped for my kid sound just fine, even with downmixed 5.1 to 2ch stereo.

I use AC3Filter to play the movie audio tracks on my rips and it sounds great. It's got a mixer section that you can use to boost the movie volume to equal your normal music levels.

Audio tracks on ripped DVDs always have a low volume; that's why most rippers normalize the sound afterwards. All you need is some application that allows you to edit the audio track. For regular .wav (I always downmix to stereo) there's tons of apps, I assume there must be something similar for AC3 as well, but I wouldn't know what application that would be since I have no experience with AC3.

Or you could just live with the fact that you'll always have to crank up the volume for your movies, and turn it down again when you wanna play mp3s or CDs... After forgetting to turn down the volume when switching from music to movie a couple of times, you'll soon be incorporating the "normalize" step as part of your ripping routine, trust me...
