    Multiple USB-Serial (FTDI chip) devices at once?

    hey dudes

    I'm trying to run two usb-to-serial style devices at once. Both use the FTDI chipset, and its causing tons of trouble. One is a TN-200 GPS receiver, and the other is a USB GPRS modem. If I install one, it works, but when you plug in the other device, it does not recognise it as new, and does not add a com port, making them both not work.

    I found a ton of info about FTDI stuff but nothing that answers this basic question.

    Any clues? certainly this has happened to someone before

    Vincent,

    I suspect both your device have the same serial number. This can be confirmed by plugging in one device at a time and using USBVIEW to view the serial number.

    To change the serial number of one device you must uninstall the current driver using Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.

    Install the D2xx driver:
    http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/FT23...Win/D10620.zip
    Install MPROG and use the default template provided.
    http://www.ftdichip.com/Resources/Ut...g230_Setup.zip

    Uninstall the D2xx driver using Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.

    Re-install VCP driver for both devices and 2 distinct COM ports should be allocated.
