Does anyone know if something like this exists?

I would like to connect my CarPc to my laptop via USB, and I would like the OS to recodnize it like a Mass storage device, meaning I will be able to see my CarPc HD on my laptop as it was DiskOnKey, I know there are cables that support file transfer over USB, but I'm talking about somthing else... some kind of a driver \ software that will set my carpc to act like diskonkey...

    thanks in advance,
    Asaf.

create a shared drive/folder. and If you set up the carPC and the laptop to have the same network you will see the drive as a network drive

Yeah I know that, I'm searching for something else, the reason is, I have 3 differnt networks that I work with, and I would like to use it on other computers as well, the great thing about this solution is that you dont have to "install" \ configure anything on the other computer, so If I configure my laptop to be "diskonkey" evey other computer that I will connect to will see my HD...

anyway thanks for the replay... have any other thought?

The USB transfer cable is still your best bet. You might have to set up a share the first time, but after that, it'll work the way you describe.

The only other solution is get one of the 2.5" USB2/Firewire enclosure and take out the labtop HD whenever needed.

Question, why do you call it a 'laBtop'? I see this all the time on this board, and it puzzles me.

If so, it's a pretty darn consistent one. There are 24 matches, two of which are MatrixPC.

well, use a usb-housing for your hdd (be it laptob or 3.5) and a 2-way switch (maybe a relay hooked up to your serial port, so you can do it in software). Like this:

    ----usb---- CarPC
    HDD ----usb----- switch/relay <
    ----usb--- socket(square) ----usb-cable---- lapdop

The switch only needs to switch the 2 data wires...

    Just an idea

Yes, sometime my index finger is faster than my little finger.
