When you started the computer was the car running? If so then it would be running off the alt until the battery became charged.

When i first installed it and turned off the computer but left the inverter on and plugged into the lighter, my battery was dead (needed a jump the next morning). The battery was old so I went and got a new one. Even now with a new battery if I turn off the computer but leave the inverter on, plugged in, the engine turns over slower the next morning. I'm sure the inverter is drawing enough to drain the battery even when it's not being used. The inverter is suppose to have a low battery shutoff but I don't think it's set high enough.

Inverters do have a no-load draw if left on with nothing plugged in. Generally measured in mA for the smaller ones, my 1250W has a little less than a 1.5A draw with nothing plugged into it.

You got me thinking. I didn't think about it at the time, not really sure what brought it to mind now. But my monitor, 12", runs off the inverter along with the computer. It also auto starts when the computer starts. No doubt it's drawing something. Think I'll unplug it and leave the inverter plugged in and see what happens.

My inverter is only a 200W so I would think it wouldn't draw as much as a 1200w.
