    Via M1000 and best setup

    Hello.
    I am wondering about one thing.
    How to set up Via Epia M1000 to get it running as fast as it is possible.

    I am asking about, what to do with
    Windows xp
    - Whitch service pack?
    - witch patches and updates
    - how to optimize the windows xp syste and whitch software config to use?
    - custom configutation?

    Bluetooth
    - whitch driver to het it running best
    - whitch setup
    - custom configutation?

    Front end
    - Roud runner or Frudoplayer or Centrafuce
    - how to get centrafuse to work as fast as it is possible on epiam?
    - custom configuration?

    Photnocontrol
    - how to get it to run as fast as it is possible on epiam?

    TV
    - How to get TV running in Roudrunner and centrafuse and Frudoplayer
    - dragontv plugin?
    - whitch software to use and their custom configuration?
    - custom configuration for frontends to embed tv?

    Yeah I know it is alot to write, but I think it isn't such a bad Idea to have a complete list over what, how and where to get carputer running as fast as it is possible.

    Linux + custom kernel; parallelized startup scripts (or hibernation).

    RAID 0 for best read/write speed (if you're a daredevil); RAID 1 for good read speed + redundancy; RAID 5 for redundancy+gobs of storage space (it's what I use).

    I'm sure that I'm forgetting some stuff at the moment, but that should get you started.

    Yah, when first I read about it in on the IBM dev website. Then immediately forgot about them, as I'd gotten used to Debian knowing what best to do with the init scripts - plus, my machines are up 24/7 (and hopefully will stay that way), so decreased boot time wasn't critical.

    UNTIL the car computer idea took hold. Now, it's pretty much required for any kind of decent boot speed; I'm going to give suspend a try shortly.

    Now thats was so great ide... And in Linux I can run phonocontrol, mappmonkey, RoudRunner, ODBII, TV, winamp...

    ODBII software is easy to write in any language, there are some more gps apps coming for linux...links coming

    why use winamp when there is XMMS

    There are plenty of TV apps for linux

    But the best of thing of all, its FULLY customizeable, and stable. Besides, how many people can say they built their own windows distro??

    Well, you asked for advice on speed... Perhaps not on which OS to use, but performance is performance. If Winblows actually ran faster than Linux, I might consider using it. *Might.* (Then I'd have to hit myself in the head with a hammer to get that idea out.)

    What makes you think that, as you say, "linux = server"? Either you haven't touched it [Linux] in a while, or you never did. The server argument is the standard for those who have never left the comfortable garden of Microsoft.

    Seriously, for this kind of application, GNU/Linux provides the best performance for given hardware. You might have to think a little more to use it, tho. But it's not so bad.

    Having read some of your other posts on this topic, the best thing you could do [in order to learn GNU/Linux] would be to cobble together a machine from whatever parts you can scavenge, load a Linux distro on it (I highly recommend Debian), and go to town. The best way to learn something is to try it out.
