Question on FM radio thru computer

Is there anyway to run my existing antenna from my car and rather than hooking it into the back of my stock headunit, i can take the plug and hook it straight into my computer?

Cause i dont see the point in buying anohter thing such as a Dlink FM radio antenna if i already have the stock antenna of my car, i just need a place to plug it into on my comp.

Umm... The DLink thingy you're talking about (I'm assuming its the DSB-R100) - or something similar - would be required in order the get FM radio on your computer. It's a USB tuner, not an antenna. The antenna that comes with it is adequate for farting around, but the car's antenna should probably be used.

I've got a DSB-R100, and it works quite well. No AM, but I never listen to that anyhow. As long as I get my WQXR!

What were you planning to plug your car's antenna into on your computer?

Ok, so how exactly how you using that DLINK thing while still using your cars stock antenna to get the signals?

Cause my antenna plug is the stock motorola style plug.

How exaclty how you hooking up your cars antenna to the DLINK?

    Well, you'll have to either
    a) get/make an adapter to change your moto-style plug to rca (I have no idea what yours looks like), or
    b) cut-off the end of the antenna lead, and wire an rca male plug on the end.

I'd go with option 'a' so the mod is reversible, but its your car/call. Then just plug it in, and stick the R100 someplace inconspicuous. No special logic/voltage/impedance considerations, AFAIK. The antenna that comes with the DSB-R100 is just an extendable rod with an rca male connector on the end.

Go to Radio Shack (You've got questions, we've got blank stares!).

Get p/n 274-710 (its called a "Car Radio Plug" - who've thought?) and p/n 274-384 (or the like).

Connect them with some wire. Not sure how critical shielding is in this app.

Plug one end into the end of your antenna wire, and the other end into a DSB-R100 or other FM tuner w/RCA jack for the antenna. I'll leave it as an exercise for the reader to determine which end goes where.

Fire up a radio tuner app and listen to your radio.

    The end.

hahah blank stares!! Would it then be possible to, rather than a RCA male, get either a coaxial or a 1/8 mini stereo plug instead and just plug it into my capture card?

I don't see why not, if 1/8" mini is what the antenna for your tuner connects to. As I said earlier, I don't think there're any voltage/logic/etc. considerations to keep in mind.

You could just stick the end of a wire hanger into the socket on your tuner, and get some reception.
