Has anyone used one of the 5 1/4 form factor computers with any success? This is the cheapest I have seen from Tiger

But do not see an included HDD. Guess would have to use ?laptop HDD or USB. If USB would prob increase boot time.
Didn't meet my needs. I don't know how that page from Tiger Direct can say it is an ideal foundation for a PVR. No video out, no PCI slot for a video capture or video card.
It is also too big for my use. Strike two. I also really don't need a P4.
Yeah, you would use a laptop 2.5 HDD in it.
I think that's brand new. As such, I wouldn't expect to see it in any installs.Quote:

You're right about the hdd, though. There doesn't appear to be much room. You could easily run a 3.5" HDD, just have the IDE & power cables running outside the case.
Realistically, I could see this being mounted behind a dash, although losing most of the case to mount the optical drive at the front. But that's just me.

If it fits in a 5.25 slot, that would be very useful. My last two SUVs, the Yukon and our Suburban, have both had outboard 5.25 devices. Well, the case is the following dimensions:
7.25 in (W) x 2.13 in (H) x 10.36 in (D)
I don't know what size the mobo is, or what size it is removing the top and bottom panels that stick over the side.
It isn't 5.25 anything but slimline optical drive sized.
It uses laptop drives for the hd 2.5mm and a slim optical drive. You can run external ide devices - either firewire or usb 2.0. The MOBO has 3 ide connectors- be careful 2 are standard ide and 1 provides power( although it is a standard ide connector) I also managed to run the laptop drives externally with 40 conductor ide cables with laptop adapters pulling power from the 3rd ide connector.
It uses a 19v ac/dc laptop style power supply that feeds an internal dc/dc power supply to step-down to the required voltages. I am looking to mount it in my trunk. It is a nice unit, I am running it straight from my cars 12v power without issue so far- some say I will blow it up running it this way though. It will not survice crank with this setup so I procured a 4ah 12v batery and a relay for a tank circuit. I hope to have this mounted permanently this weekend.

So how would this work? No video onboard or no pci slot? If you going to buy this and put money for the ram,video,Cpu,Hd and etc. Its is cheap just to get a Laptop.
I should have expanded what I ment by Video out. It doesn't have TV out, no RCA or S-Video connectors. It is VGA only. That is fine if that is all you need, but I needed TV out as well.
