Question I cant get my computer to boot my CF Card

I have a 16mb compact flash card connected to my computer via a CF-IDE adapter and it installed as the primary master drive. My computers bios picks this drive up as being a regular 16mb hard drive. However, it cannot boot at all. The computer reads this drive then freezes.

    This disk is:
    -16 mb
    -formatted in fat12
-had its mbr modified by bootprep.exe (which is supposted to make cf cards bootable)
    -has a primary active patition
-has all dos boot files copied to it from a windows 98 boot disk
-i also uses sys.com to make this cf drive bootable/
-in fdisk, the drive shows up but in Partition Magic it doesnt
-Under computer managment/disk management in windows xp, i cannot mark
the disks partition as active. (its greyed out)

I really dont know what else to try, please help if you can!!

You don't need to use bootprep to boot win98. It's looking for NTLDR right now. Do you get a invalid system disk error?
Try to get a regular MBR back on that CF card.

ok, what is ntldr? what does it do?
sorry, this is all kinda new to me....

i dont get any error messages at all, the computer just freezes after the POST. There is a second or two of hard drive activity, but then it stops and the computer becomes unresponsive.

you only need to run bootprep if you are booting XP from a FAT formatted CF card. What exactly are you planning to run on a 16MB CF card? You should head over to the OS optimization forum for more info.
