usb computer lock

i wonder if you could set you computer to boot when you are in the active range of this device.

yeah some people where looking at using that for some kind of door opening system when you are near by.

there would be no noticable boot up time if your computer started to boot before you even sat down.

I've got one of these, it works on some proprietary software that automatically locks the whole system, I was hoping to use it to possible remote start the PC etc but it didn't work how I expected, if you like I'll take another in-depth look at it to see if it would work or not - would be useful if it did.

Would be fantastic if someone could produce custom software to use this device. We wouldn't need to lock our doors or turn the car alarm on. PC could turn on when we're near. Could be good.

This guy has written his own app to work with this. While it's beta, it does work (except on my Win2k machine), and he has talked about open sourcing it.

hmmm... i wonder if it would just be easier to wire a relay and timer to the door lock mechanism. This way when you use your key fob to unlock the doors it'll start the computer to boot up. you could probably wire a combonation lock ic to only start the computer when you hit the unlock two times in a row. this way the computer wouldn't boot if you just needed to unlock your doors because you needed to get something from your car.

also...Does anyone know of a similar sensing device (with a similar range) that isn't software dependant?

NotchbackVW has already come up with that idea and is working on a circuit. How2 control CarPC from key fob....
