Are you CERTAIN the cable isn't plugged in upside down?

Are the master/slave jumpers set properly?

^*not to steal the thread, but what should the master/slave jumper be set to when using a device like this? I've never used a usb harddrive before...

To the poster, are you sure the drive is working? Have you tested it over ide? Also, can you hear the drive spinning/lights blinking, or is it not even getting power?

In that picture, I don't see the red LED on or the power supply lit up... lol... um make sure that's plugged in!
If the power is working, you'll hear the drive spool up and start functioning whether it's plugged into pc or not...

If that's all good.. then follow Bugbyte's suggestions... check cable and make sure it's set to right jumper...
I know my external drive needed to be set to cable select to function properly.

I think the LED is in the upper right corner of the PS... mine is almost just like that...
the LED is flush mounted in the power supply... but maybe that's just a smudge on his.

    ...heh...

The power supply should be obvious as its a bright blue LED.
