I've read reviews of it that say it's pretty slow, as well.
WTF do you want to know?
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

What are you planning to do with it? I have a 1GB hard drive like that and I will be using that to transfer my files from home to carPC. They are a bit slow, but I figure I can plug it in and let it transfer while I'm driving. No big deal.
    Spent so far: $1,755

Oh, so now I'm the homo IT geek?!? Just kidding.
5GB seems like alot for just file transfers. You will probably load up the bulk of your files before the PC goes in your car, so you will be able to wire it straight to your home PC for that. I would just find an inexpensive 512MB or 1GB drive to use. 512 would be plenty big enough for music transfers. I am using a 1GB because I make Divx movies that are 700MB big.
