Anyone ever make an air vent?

Has anyone ever done this before? I couldn't find it in search. Just an idea that came to my head.

I am imagining this as a sedan with the carputer in the trunk.

Run a tube as an air scoop from the bottom of the car and in to the trunk and then to the pc case fan that breathes air in to the pc. Inside the tube you could have two (or as many as you want) meshes so nothing would get in-- you could have one at the beginning and another at the end.

This would probably prevent overheating and I don't see any other problems with this, except for maybe some water getting in to the air tube but mesh's would prevent most of it because it's not in the direct rain?

I remember stumbling across a website of a guy who did this but he did it around the rear wheel well to the trunk. I don't remember the url but I think he concluded that it was more trouble than it was worth. Depending on the setup of the car it could be fairly easy though. I'd worry too much about water getting in to do it but it rains pretty hard down here some times.

to be safe i wouldn't have the air getting pushed into the case, rather set it up to have the tube extract the air. sort of like how cowl induction hoods suck the air out of the engine.

In theory it would work but what about winter...where you live it may not be an issue but just think about water getting up inside there and freezing...also what about sitting in traffic the air under you car...depending where the intake is has the potential to be very very warm. Just my $0.02

Yeah here we don't have heavy rain all winter long, but I am pretty sure depending on the place you put it, it could be ok. Also if its in the rear, I don't think theres anything that causes heat besides the exhaust.

The bacjk of most cars/trucks/vans are vented already usually in the fender or behind the bumper so that rain doesnt' get in. You could tap into that if you find it. Since it's more then likely that the tubing will have bends in it and being going up into the case gravity and the bends will take car of any water that may enter.

I don't have a carpc yet but plan to get one real soon--within a few weeks (been waiting about a year now) so I may do this. It can get hot here in the summer too so this does look like a good idea to me.

It should never be so hot in your car while your driving, which is when the air vent would be beneficial. It's when your car is parked that the temperature begins to rise. While your driving all you have to do is turn on the air or roll a window down.

IF the computer is in the trunk though it can get to hot while you are driving in my old car...a 97 Mercury Tracer it used to get hot in the trunk, hot enought to cause my amp(not a big one either) to over heat, on hot summer days when the sun was out neither air nor windows down would help unless I would put half the back seat down.

    That would be me.

original thread: my ideas to combat heat

    Cliff's notes version:

First, I did this (which worked well, BTW):

Then, realizing that was not a good permanant solution, I did this (which did NOT work so well, BTW):

Complete PITA. I still have the vents, and I'll sell them to you if you want 'em.
