Reversing camera power source?

Hi,

I'm going to get a reversing camera, but the question is - where do I power it from?

a) Standard wall-plug AC/DC adaptor plugged into the inverter

b) If I want it on only in reverse, tap into the reversing light cables?

c) If I want it on all the time (car on) to a switched source.

Will I need any sort of power conditioning?

i would be to avoid plugging it up to an inverter if possible. i am also planning on a reveerse camera for my setup. for power i am hooking it up to a 3 way switch. position 1, 12v switched with the ignition so that camera can be on when the car is on. position 2, 12v from reverse lights, so camera can be on only when in reverse, and position 3 off. most reverse cameras are made to be in a car and can run off of 12vdc but you should read the specs for the camera you buy.

Nice one. Are you familiar with Maplins in the UK? Cameras there.

Where in the rear are switched 12v power supplies? Or will I have to run a looooong cable?

Shoot who cares how it is powered the real question is how will you get your screen to switch video inputs when you put your car in reverse and switch back when your in normal gears

it will do it automatically if he has a xenarc.

the screen swithches to vidoe input 2 whenever there is a signal there automatically, (im not sure about the duration). So if you have it on the vga screen and you put the car in reverse, if the camera is hooked up to the reverse lights, it gets powered, and the xenarc screen will automatically switch to the video 2 input. however im not sure if it stays in the in the video2 mode until the signal is not there anymore, or if it stays there for a certain time limit then autiomatically swithces back to the vga.
