someone please explain to me why this is happening

My computer automatically restarts itself. i hit shut down and it just boots right back up. I tap the power button, same thing. The only time i can get it off is when i hold the power button for 4 seconds or cutting the power all together. I did tell my bios to wake from S3 standby on usb command but that was a week ago and these problems just started. Doesnt matter if i'm using my SDC or not, same effect occurs. HELP

DOUBLE check your windows power options as well as your bios options.

EDIT: try disabling the USB option and seeing what happens

PSU is a standard 200 watt morex running to inverter. Ya know bad ram could be the answer considering its a 512 dim and only 248 is showing up in windows.

whoa same thing happened to me but I ignored it, then one day i heard a pop and then there was that odd smell of burnt plastic and then nothing. Now I have no computer to play with. I guess I could take it apart but I'm lazy and only have 56k at home.

but onboard video using more than half the ram? I'd say it's more likely that you only have a 256mb dimm and 8 of that is taken up by video. How much RAM does BIOS say you have?

for good measure, run memtest86 (google for it)

I have seen it before, usually it was windows being screwed though and reporting the memory incorrectly. Happened alot when I was working for Gateway and windows ME was released. I second the idea of checking BIOS to see if memory is detected properly.
