I'm just curious if anyone else out there has looked for or used any kind of convertor to run SPDIF (digital coax) to Toslink (digital optical)? Basically, instead of running my carputer through my Audigy2ZS sound board, I want to run my digital audio output of my M10000 mainboard to my Alpine PXA-H701... the only problem is that the Alpine processor from what I've found only accepts Toslink input... I have found the convertor below...

Now, another thing I have and wonder about is in the picture attached to this post... This board has four inputs... each with right and left analog audio, digital audio (toslink) and video (composite)... and there is one output... originally this board was outfitted with digital coax connectors on the inputs and outputs... I wondering if I swapped the inputs (or some of the inputs) back to the coax connector, if they would all output from the toslink output... anyone know? Anyone wanna guess? This board can be outfitted to have either one button to toggle between each input, or a seperate button for each input selector... I also think that it can be setup to interface with a serial port but I haven't put much thought into that...
Anyway, just wondering what solution I should use... SPDIF to Toslink convertor, or should I try to get this other board to do it for me? Of course, the switcher board would be best because I could convert my XMPCR to output in toslink, and also run my sons XBox or PS2 with toslink... and let it do the switching of my sources.

Use the convertor you posted. Its cheap and easy. I use it for my DSP. I have the panasonic CYAC300-EX but wish i had that alpine unit you have. Anyways i tried a bunch of different convertors and ended up with nothing but problems. The cheap one worked the best YMMV

Yea.. 6V but only 250mA so that shouldn't be too hard (compared to a 7 port USB hub I got that requires 6V 4A for situations where I have 7 things all using their 500mA).
You can use LM317 to power it..

Crap! It couldn't require 5V, could it?! I mean, I can find 5V in the system already... but damn... 6V! LM317? That rings a bell but I haven't used my electronics brain much since graduating from DeVry... right now, I'd prefer something a little more specific or plug and play... care to help a brutha out?! Yeah I felt the same way about the 5V and my hub..
As for a plug and play solution, you can probably use one of those universal cigarette DC-DC converters..
