New P-M embedded board, EBX format

Hey guys, I got a quote from Arcom on their new board coming out later this month called the Apollo. It runs Celeron M or Pentium M CPU's. It's fanless and power usage ranges from 12.3W to 36W depending on the CPU being used. It has dual independent video support (second LVDS, DVI, VGA, or TV-out via add-on card), has a PCI slot, 1 DIMM slot, built-in CF slot which can either hold a bootable CF card or other devices, and it even has a connector for character LCD's for headless operation. Now, just for ****s and giggles I emailed them requesting a quote expecting something in the $1200 range...instead it's $525. Now, yeah that's still quite a bit compared to a VIA MII or something, but this is definitely a much better board and the price is considerably lower than similar boards I've been quoted on. On top of that it has the right BIOS for the uDOC I plan on using. BTW, the EBX format is 5.75" x 8" (146mm x 203mm).

Thats funny, I actually just got a quote back from advantech for a pentium M SBC thats 3.5" thats around the same price.

The one from advantech runs off of a single 5V+ supply.

    is that $525 without CPU?

I can get a kontron board with a 1.1 pentium-M (still very quick) for about $680.

avantech do some nice ones too.

Perosnlly i thing SBCs are th way forward. I have PC104+ capable P3 which can take some crazy addons. you can even get adapters to take PCI cards if you need em. They also do a pretium M 1.6 what is PC104 size - ie about 3.5"x3.5"!!!!!

oh that is actualyl quite big. My P3 is 102x147mm (half an epia) and you can get Pentium-M 1.8s that small too. I have seen some smaller (as mentioned) but they lack allt he connectors so they have to be on headers. But still very cool.

DOn't forget these baords are designed for industry and aerospace so they are a lot more robust than any mATX mobo from you local PC store. SBCs are worth every penny but i will wait until my next car before i go pentium-M. The 1.4ghz will run on about 26W!!!!

yeah, the kontron JRex-PM is too expensive for me though. They have a Celeron M version coming out for $800 or so. It's nice and small, but you need to buy a few add-ons for full audio and such. This one has everything included (even 5.1 audio which I've only seen few embedded boards with that). Yeah, you need to buy the CPU. I'm also limited in what boards I can get because only a few people use AMIBIOS or PhoenixBIOS which is what I need for the uDOC. So far Arcom, Kontron, Lippert, and American Predator make the only boards I could use. I'm waiting on American Predator to release their latest Mini-ITX P-M board later this month to see how much that would be.

This is what I have been trying to do for the past week and a bit. Sometimes living outside the US is a pain in the ***. I've been waiting for quotes from Kontron and Arcom as well as a couple of other companies (some local to me as distributors and some in the US) but haven't heard anything as yet. Thanks for putting up the prices and if there's bulk discounts let me know.

they dont normally deal with individuals for private sales as they are industrial boards.

The JRex type are beryy cool and yeah they need addons but you can get the PM one quite cheap and the addons are things like second monitor etc. If you want 5.1 audio i sugest you get a usb2 soundcard anyway as the sixe lets you ount the PC in your dash for ease of wiring (monitors, serial ports to controls etc) and then have a usb run to the amp in your boot.

Also, the PC104 and PC104+ cabable boards have some amazing addons which you just stack up..I have seen a PC104 powersupply unit that is deisgned for automotive use and can even come with SDC options and UPS charging circuits so all you need to add is a small 12V battery.

Here is another example of what you can get for PC104 boards: very cool!

The quote I got for a JRex PM 1.6GHz was $924... not cheap to me if you've found a cheaper price let me know. This site has prices for the Kontron and Lippert boards as well: http://www.wdlsystems.com

Arcom, Kontron, and especially American Predator have been really helpful to me even if they know I plan on buying just a single board.

    well my advantech board was $700 for a 3.5" board with a 1.6Pentium M CPU or $500 with a 1.5 celeron M CPU

the Pentium M CPU seems to be the most expensive part, it's about $350

Edit: and the Pentium 3 board that goes up to 1.26Ghz was only $275

does this advantech board have everything on it like described on this thread? (basically the stuff we need for carpcs... onboard video, sound, etc) Where can it be obtained online?

Just a Q though: why this over a P4-ITX? like the MBase?
