how come my SB Audigy is skipping?

i just did a clean install of my carputer and i've noticed that when playing music, my audigy skips (or hiccups) when there is a sudden CPU load. I have everything up to date, has anyone else experienced this? thanks

no it's USB, and it is directly connected to the motherboards USB port, no hubs or anything.

    Oh... a USB model

And you say that you've got the latest drivers for your motherboard/soundcard/videocard? Then I don't know

simple, usb relies a good deal on the cpu. start transferring a large file to or from a usb drive and do any heavy computing (say rendering some 3d work or encoding a video). youll notice that the transfer will quickly slow down. this is hy your audigy will skip.

i guarantee you that it is caused by your onboard video. this is why you should get a real computer without onboard video and use an agp card plus a pci soundcard. onboard video sucks, especially when combined with soundblaster products.

Oh yeh... make sure to the the SB on its own USB port or on a USB 2 only hub. If you plug in any USB 1 devices, all the USB drops to USB 1 speeds.

I have this problem. I have the USB audigy connected to its own USB 2.0 port. I have urm, let me count, several USB devices.
    1. Griffin powermate
    2. USB LAN dongle.
    3. USB 2.0 Hub for the rest of the following...
    4. Keyboard (sometimes)
    5. Mini number keypad
    6. USB touchscreen interface for xenarc screen.

I HAD a USB IDE drive converter connected up, to a DVD rom but it SUCKED.

So, you see I have found the best way to hook it all up, with an INCREDIBLE amount of trial and error, and alot of friggin around, and put up with the rest.

The skipping only happens about 3 times while listening to about 10 songs, so it doesnt really bother me that much. Don't think there is much you can do about it.

On the other hand, if anyone knows something else that will help, shoot!!

try an add-on usb controller dedicated to the sound card?
