Thinking of mounting CD/DVD combo drive in trunk, what am I not thinking of???

It seems like a PITA to wire and mount my IDE combo drive up front somewere - I've got relocated head unit and not much room for the drive. Right now, I'm considering just mounting it in the trunk with my PC. What am I not thinking of that will cause me to regret my choice in the future. In other words, what are you all doing with your cd or dvd rom drives that makes you glad you put it up front.

For the record, I won't be listening to any cds on the car pc and won't use dvd movies that aren't ripped to the HDD very often. I would have no problem going back to the trunk to install programs and such. Thanks
Its not the cards you're dealt, its how you play the hand!

Yeah...just the pain of having to go to the back of the car to switch discs and such.. Especially if you're doing multiple installs.

But...if it's more of a pain to get it up in the front, nothing really wrong with in the rear.

I don't have a CD drive in my system. Like you, I run all my stuff off the hard drive and only need CD/DVD to load software. I got a cheap external USB drive and only plug it in when I need to put stuff on the system.

Putting it in the back isn't that big a deal. There's a nice BMW install that puts it back there and I'm sure lots of folks have done the same.

Seems like most people who want to access the drive are going to rip CD's or do a lot of DVD watching.

I had the same questioning while planning my setup, but I decided against installing it upfront because:
    My HU plays mp3's;
For Doing installs I use my Laptop with an ad-hoc connection to transfer the files needed.
And I didn't want to have the option of sticking in a dvd and playing it while driving; Don't need an "expensive" certificate from the PD saying I have the ability to do so.

Well you may find over time that having a cd-drive in the cab my be
usefull - I like to try new software, and I like to copy MP3 out in the car
    - I also like to watch movies and TV when I have to sit and wait for
someone or some thing - and its nice to be able to just get away
from every one and watch a movie when parked some were far away
from any one that might bug you, - I would not limit yourself like that,
and what if someone that rides with you wants to watch a movie

I have got 2 cdroms, a USB slimline in the cab, and a IDE cd burner in the
computer thats in the trunk - I need to be able to burn things for
working on computers - to cheap to get a slimline cd burner

[QUOTE]For Doing installs I use my Laptop with an ad-hoc connection to transfer the files needed.[QUOTE] I am going wireless - and maybe wardriving but nothing bad
