Mini-itx case with vertical HDD mount?

So I hear a lot of people here describing that the best orientation to mount a hard drive in a car is vertically (so the platters are parellel to the wheels of the car) ..

I want to put my Mini-itx based system under the passenger seat in my '05 Corolla. I don't think any case will fit vertically there (only about 6" clearence, roughly the same as the mobo), but are there any cases that might have a mount inside that will allow for the hard drive to be vertical (like to the side of the case cover)?

I would prefer a case that allows a standard 3.5" hard drive, but if there's one for 2.5" I'd like to know too...

    Thanks.

Not that I know of, only in the taller ones (casetronic makes a tall model) you might get one to fit, but as it is in those, the HDD mounts horizzontally too. Only then, youcoudn't put it under the seat.

I'd say, go and mount it horizontaly, I've had mine like this for 7-8 months now, and no issue here. I figured if it brakes, it's a cheap victim to replace, but it hasn't...

Here is where I'm thinking of putting the computer.. it'll be Mini-itx so pretty much any case will fit here.

BTW... you can see that extrememly long cable coiled up that I was talking about in your other thread for the DF-TOY I installed.

I use mATX mobo, full size DVD ROM, Desktop HD and a Sproggy PSU in a custom make plexiglass case. They all fit right under the Matrix seat and it only has <6" clearance. (13"x9.7"x5.6") is the case dimension.

I am sure mITX mobo with custom case you can fit anything under that seat.

Thanks Matrix. Planning a custom case I think may be my next step... because like Chris said... I don't think they make a case with vertical mounts for a HDD.

    This is getting interesting!

Tellarite, I'm really sorry I thought you meant under "rear" seats ! I obviously know what it looks like under front seats ! I live in Canada (Quebec) though and the winter is pretty long.. and cold... and a lot of snow can get around there, that's why I preffered the trunk ! I'll post pics of the computer install really soon ! I just installed black car carpet over my wood fabrication so it looks stock So no one knows there is a computer there
