looking for a stealth install, will this work?

hi. i'm planning on installing a xenarc touchscreen into a mk4 golf, but live in london and so want to make it look like a stock radio.

first idea was to just make a flat panel with the face of teh stock radio and cd changer above it and just put it over the screen when i want to hide it but this is a bit amateurish..

then i thought why not make the same flat panel as above but stick it on the back of the LCD and have the lcd on an axle so it swivels round, maybe even motorised. this way it looks completely stock and there's nothing to take off, just swivel it round.

will it work? i don't know how thick the screens ar though.

A lot of people have done the radio faceplate over the LCD trick, and the general opinion seems to be that it works pretty good. The motorized thing would be awesome though.

I have to say, however, I foresee a ton of work with making it motorized, unless you're pretty experienced at that sort of thing. It doesn't seem like it would be very easy to do, though fell free to prove me wrong, because that would simply be great!

    Good luck!

i know it sounds a bit stupid, but it can easily be done with a few lego gears and motor (seen as i alredy have them). perfectly reliabel stuff once superglued together!

I don't see how it will work, unless you don't mind a gap above and below your screen. You'd need that gap to account for the thickness of screen+faceplate.

My idea was similar, to have the swivel, but then have it mounted to a short, spring-loaded track that would allow the screen to slide back so that it could rotate, and then the faceplate side would be pushed into place. I even bought some drawer rails for furniture that would work well. But I gave up due to space constraints and the fact that's it's needlessly complex.
