    Relocating DVD Drive

My current planned setup is as follows

    Silverstone SST-LC09 Case mounted in boot containing the following;

    • Nehemiah M10000
    • 512mb DDR
    • 120Gb Seagate barracuda 3.5"
    • Opus 90W power supply

I will be using the gain 7" wide touchscreen flush-mounted in the dash. Will this be ok using a USB and VGA extension cable?

Also I hope to use a slimline DVD drive below the screen. Is there a usb device I can use in a similar way to the screen? so run a USB extension from the boot to the dash to connect to a slimline drive and power it?

    Possibly this drive?

    Expansys link

Are my needs within the capabilities of the 90w power supply?

    Thanks in advance.

No problems with extending the screen, I've done exactly what you described before with no problems.

As far as the DVD drive goes, what you said would work. You could also buy an external enclosure such as this:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817145314

I have that exact enclosure, and it looks big, but inside, it really is just a USB to IDE adapter (and a small power supply to power the hard drive/CD-rom you have in it). If you gut it, it shouldn't take up much room.

    Good luck

But I bet you are going to use laptop DVD drive, right? In any case, there are USB - slimeline IDE enclosures available as well on the market.

Nice one, I was concered that the VGA/USB cable might degrade quality over that distance to make it unuseable.

Get high-quality cables and this won't be an issue. Cheap, unshielded cables will encounter signal loss.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

I'm not sure what you mean here. If you mean how is the DVD drive powered then it is powered from the USB.

From a certifiable technician, you shouldnt go past 16 feet with USB cables if you can help it. HTH

16 feet so approximately 5 metres. I have a 5m USB cable so should be more than enough i'd say.
