So I plug it all in just using an ATX power supply so I can at least load software to test everything out. Everything looks great. Change boot device to CD-ROM and pop in my OS and...BAM...DVD drive not detected. I've searched these forums and trust me I isolated this down to the DVD drive. The drive has no jumpers(the adapter didn't come with any). Still nothing being autodetected. This is all brand new so I don't know which is being the culprit...the adapter or the drive...anyone else run into this same problem?
Meanwhile...I guess I'll hook up a normal 5.25 drive and load my windows.

Is you hard drive and the DVD/CD on the same cable. Maybe move the DVD to another cable, and connect it to secondary IDE channel.

Can you test the DVD on another machine. Can you check it with the adapter on anothe rmachine. How have you isolated the problem to the DVD drive?

My hard drive isn't on the same cable. Tried JUST connecting the DVD drive only and it still doesn't recognize it. I can not test the slimline DVD in a laptop as I don't have the compatible interface. If I check the DVD drive with the adapter on another machine and it still doesn't work I am still in the same boat. Is it the adapter or the drive? The drive powers up and I can insert a disk and it seems to load it up but nothing is recognized. My money is on the adapter but I can't say for sure.

Trying it on another computer will determine if it is the MB or the cable or something else. If it doesn't work on another machine, then it is the adaptor or the drive. A new adaptor is cheaper to get, and then restest the whole thing. If it still doesn't work, then the drive is bad. If it works on another machine, then you know it is something in either the MB, cable, or your mobile system in general.

Or, you can just replace the adaptor, and hope that clears the problem.

At least you will know where to start looking.
