Red face Forgive me if this system has already been in discussion

I wasn't sure how to search for this in the archives since the keywords would probably pop up every message in the archive.

    check this out:

You can almost (if you have a double din) rip out both thingys that occupy both DIN slots and pop this in as a replacement! Pentium 2, 6.1 VGA LCD, on-board sound, serial ports up the wazoo, USB, and optional touchscreen! WOW! I wonder what the horrific price is.

Going by the specs, and description, they are using something like the EM-586 board, mounted to the back of an lcd.

The mainboard lists for around 450.00
    LCD 6.4 TfT I think around 300.00
cables conectors, maybe lcd interface 200.00

    Thats a rough guess.

hmmm well if it is like any other embedded PC (ie em586) then the lcd interface should be free. But unlike the EM586, there are actually ports soldered onto the board, as opposed to having to pay about 100$ worth of cables just to get your serial ports and VGA monitor to work.

hmmm lets see what other people think hehe...

    And I wonder if that universal 65Watter is a [DC/AC]->DC open-frame PS.

As sweet as this is... I'll bet it's VERY expensive. I don't see any price on the page though.

Geez this thing would solve a buttload of problems.

    Unhappy

Is it just me, or does it look much too large to mount in a dash? The LCD is small enough, but the way the PC board is mounted makes it nearly impossible.

If you can separate the LCD from the PC then you may as well get an Advantech PC instead. With one of those you get PCI (for a real sound card and other goodies like wireless ethernet) and CompactFlash (easier to deal with than DiskOnChip)

Otherwise, It's pretty cool. The built-in infra-red is nice.

I just wish the makers of these small boards would switch over to using the mobile processors. Smaller, cooler, and less power drain.

    here is what it says:

    Coming Summer 2001

After Seven Years of innovating in the flat panel display market we've decided to offer the most cost effective Panel P.C. made in America. American quality, engineering and support. We start with Intel chipsets only utilizing our patent pending low cost DVI LCD interface. By utilizing a Flex/ATX motherboard design and our DVI LCD interface expertise we cut $100's of dollars of cost and component count resulting in a more cost effective and reliable solution.

With 10.4" to 15.1" LCD's speeds to 800 Mhz and 12.1" XGA TFT solutions under $1000 you'll want to bookmark this page right now. We're looking for early adopters to be beta test sites who will use 50 plus units a year. Please contact [email protected] if you have an interest.
