running too hot perhaps?
I have a Mini-ITX w/ XP running Roadrunner (though that doesn't matter, happens regardless of frontend). Frequently (usually about 2hrs of running time, but not necessarily 2 hrs in one trip, meaning it can be fine for a trip or too, then conk out 5 minutes after I turn it on one time) it will just freeze up completely, no response whatsoever. These lockups to not correlate to any conditions - I can be barrelling down the highway, or at a complete stop, so it's not like its getting bumped or something. Just wondering if anyone's come across this before - I am pretty sure I'll need a reformat, but figured it was worth a shot to ask.

Ensure all your hardware is seated properly. Make sure you don't have a loose wire inside the case that may be shorting out.
I had one inside the case that when shorted, cut power to the hard drive, but the machine otherwise was still running.
Other than that, try running the machine outside of the car. Rule out any variables, then slowly add them into the equation - a reformat isn't always the answer. Good luck

From my experience it is either heat or you PSU does not provide enough power. Had both things happen to me in the home PC environment

Hmm, thanks. I'll give the suggestions a try. The thing that baffles me is that it happens randomly, its not like it happens when I'm going over a bump (which would make me believe there was a short or somethign)- it can and has happened while I am stopped and have been for a few seconds. My CPU hovers around ~150F most of the time, and the case temp at ~130F..does this sound right?
those temps sound kinda hot to me... but i have had this same problem and it was heat related as well as a short..

Don't neglect checking the hard drive temps. That can be a cause as well. At least, it was on my early install.

ok this is gonna sound kinda dumb but i have seen it quite often repairing computers have you tryed unhooking your usb stuff one by one to see if it keeps doing it. I just had a system come through my shop that was freezeing up and it tured out the headers on the motherboard for the front usb had a problem with nothing plugged in to the front headers it hasn't gave them a problem since it left here(they didn't want to buy a new motherboard). Oh and yeah that temp does sound a bit high.
ok guys, i took most of the stuff out of the case...it's ugly but I'll see if it makes a difference.
Check your hdd!!! My system kept hanging, today its completely failed![]()
