Slimline DVD > IDE > USB Has anyone tried this?

Has anyone tried taking a slimline DVD and using a converter to make it IDE and then using a IDE to USB cable? I'm thinking about doing this for my next install and having the PC under the seat rather than shoehorned into the dash.

I know it's been done and I did but my real question is will it be bootable for installing an O.S. or will I have to install the O.S. before before hand with STD IDE in place?

    Of course.

I know it's been done and I did search but my real question is will it be bootable for installing an O.S. or will I have to install the O.S. before before hand with STD IDE in place?
If you know it's been donem, then why did you ask?
That depends if your motherboard supports booting from USB devices.
Most newer ones do. Look in the BIOS Setup for the option to allow USB boot.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?

Because like a newbie idiot I realized there was a thread AFTER I had posted and I didn't see a delete option... so I had to edit To many people ready to be a smart *$&% on here when given the chance.

I'll check out the BIOS, thanks.

My Turn to be a smart ***.

If you are a thread starter, there is no delete option. However, you could always come back, and edit the post to say something like, "I found the answer, sorry for the post" and be done with it.

If you edit your post, the delete option is near the top of the screen.

I'll check out the BIOS, thanks.
No problem. Remember that not all motherboards have the capability.
