USB2.0 hub don't go full speed in XP

Why is my new USB2.0 hub not identified as a 2.0 device? XP says this unit can go faster.

What do you have plugged into it? If you have 1.1 and 2.0 devices plugged into it, the hub reverts back to 1.1 speeds. If you don't have anything plugged into it yet, I would think that you may need some service packs or drivers.

I have a 2.0 DVD drive into it and the damn thing won't even open the tray so I guess the hub is not working very good.

Is the Hub plugged directly into the computer port, or do you have a cable that is between the hub and the computer. What about a canle between the 2.0 DVD drive, and the Hub. The cable might not be 2.0 compliant. If it is not, then the hub will see a 1.1 device, and then the computer will tell you that you could be doin 2.0 instead of 1.1.

As for the USB DVD not being able to opne, USB 2.0 has nothing to do with the power available at the port. It is possible the DVD isn't opening because the DVD needs external power. Not opening doesn't sound like a 2.0 versus 1.1 problem. It sounds like a power problem.

Same result as what. Have you checked for updated/installed drivers?

Do you have SP1 (Service Pack 1) or SP2 installed?

    Thanks for helping!

SP2 is installed. The DVD-drive works as it should if I plug it in directly to the computer. It opens the tray without external power.

The cable from computer to hub is what I got with the hub so it SHOULD be compatible with 2.0 when the hub says USB2.0 all over.

You got it with the Hub, or "it came with" the hub. It may not be compliant. Also, your DVD issue is a power issue. LET ME SAY IT AGAIN, THE DVD ISN'T WORKING CORRECT BECAUSE OF POWER. Remember that the longer a thin wire is, the morevoltage and amperage loss. Since there is a long cable, and it is very thin, and that long cable supplies 4 ports in your hub from one port on your computer, you are gonna have power problems.
