I dont think its junk because its not custom... I think its no fun because its not custom. For most here the major reason of installing a carputer is the time it takes, the skill and research involved, so naturally most here will say prof-installed sucks. It's a matter of priorities.

I don't care what other people think about my car pc. I search for my new car electrical wiring diagram, workshop manual etc, study it, Assemble my car pc, design the shutdown controller, then make it by my own hands.
I never imagine how long time it takes and longger time maybe better for me. .......know why? ... because I ENJOY THE PROGRESS.
I don't want to say that my project is finish ........ Better be a never ending project for me. Its fun...
Other people have other opinion and other way to have fun.......

Is a car pc really needed? Why I make mine?

Yeah we get poeple saying, mr do it all why not put your car together as well, how about customising your clothes your shoes and everything you own?...dooh

Reason why people customise things because they have interest on it and because they can.

You wont see me in cake or dress making forum...No offence to those who does

Right, its not junk but it is in the wrong forum. Here we get some people who are happy to just plug in and go, nothing wrong with that.

What these guys dont get is its like advertising a standard 1.1L nissan micra in a custom car forum

Hey, that looks like it could be modded. Rip the screen off, mold it into the dash, extend the video cable and hide the rest somewhere... Kind of a big box to hide though.

Yeah if its cheaper to build a car PC that way.

This is even more funny..... this is a forum about carpc's, general hardware section... what's the right forum for this

I'm not custom bashing here, I make a living building custom cars, everything I drive is way custom... belive me I know the satisfaction of building it myself.... I to would rather build it myself... but to bash those who can't or those who choose to pay extra for it to be professionally done is

this unit may not be for most of the obsesive compulsive anal maniacs on this forum (myself included by the way

), but this is an awsome piece for what it is.... it's o.k. to not like it, but don't bash professionally done either....

I learn more by checking out the worst home made install than I would learn looking at a the best store bought. I have more respect for the DIY stuff too.

How we describe our car PC's- I have a 2.4 barton with 2 sticks of 3200DDR stuffed into an SFF mobo, ATI graphics and an ELO touchscreen with a home made power supply.......

How they describe their car PC- That was $600 and that was $1000, and then I paid $300 to get that $900 part installed, don't touch that, it cost $400.......
