Slimline DVD + IDE adapter + IDE -> USB adapter = no drive in Windows?

Trying to get this blasted slim-dvd ROM to work! Confirmed that the drive (Pansonic UJ-815B) will work if I attach the adapter and plug it into the board. Also made sure that the IDE -> USB adapter works by attaching it to my hard drive. Drive boots fine. ...but when I connect both adapters to the slimline DVD, Windows doesn't see it.

So basically, it looks like the two adapters don't work together. Does anyone have pictures of adapters they have made to work together?

I am using the adapters below:

i have the exact same setup with a dvd/cd-rw drive, no problems, almost identical adapters... my ide-usb is slightly different.
Possible compatibility issues? Don't really know, just saying it works fine for me..

Which IDE USB adapter are you using? The single plug? This one(?): http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-2-0-to-IDE-A...QQcmdZViewItem

sometimes slim dvd drives need an external power hook up, +5v. I have an adapter that takes my slim slot loading dvd drive straight to USB, and has a plug that plugs into the keyboard port to get the extra +5v required for the drive to operate.

As it turns out, I bought another USB adapter with only the standard 40-pin connector and the DVD-ROM works fine. So to anyone who stumbles on this thread in the future, don't buy the laptop|IDE USB adapter for a Panasonic UJ-815B drive!

mattress I would have loved to have used a single laptop->USB adapter, except I did not know they existed.
