This doesn't really answer a question, but poses another. Is there a DOS player that can use a keypad and a 4x20 LCD like WinAMP? And no, I'm not going to redo my system with Linux. I would like to use DOS for the fast boot time. I already have the WIN version kickin', but the 50-60 second boot time is somewhat annoying.

Try mpxf.mp3car.com It handles almost any LCD you can throw at it, a keypad and/or remote, and a fully searchable database, playslists, and lots of other extras

I built a DOS mp3 player. What problems are you having? You weren't clear in your original post.

Click on the link in my sig to see how I put mine together.

well Gutter, im having problems with the startup, see, im having it run with no h/d, kinda like that AMP.mp3car.com guy where he uses a boot disk and runs stuff off of cd. How would i set the mp3 player to run the cd rom drive (its d:\).

Just create a normal bootdisk with CD support. Then add this line to the end of your autoexec.bat file (if you're using MPXPlay):

    MPXPLAY D:\

It'll start the player reading from the CD as soon as it boots. Does this help?
