powering a slim dvd drive - hub lights go out

I have one of those slim dvd to USB converters. I plugged it into a USB v2.0 HUB that was powered by a 5v harddrive power, but the light for that device (theres four, one for every port on the hub) goes out on the hub until it is unplugged and plugged back in (the hub). i used my second usb plug that goes into the DVD's power supply, but that light goes out too. I can get the drive working if i just plug in the one USB plug directly into the motherboard. Has anyone see this before? if its been discussed, i missed it, so could you send the link?

    thanks.

Some hubs can't give out the full 500ma power output the motherboard can. Try a different hub, and make sure the one you have is set to self-powered if it has a switch on it.

geez, sometimes its the simplist things that mess me up. Thanks. A different hub made it work. i thought all self powered hub ports had to give 500mA? the other thing that was messing me up is that Windows Device manager says its only drawing 96mA. It's working now so i shouldn't complain.

Ha! just my luck. the M10000 doesn't power one when the hub is plugged in. I had this problem earlier w/ my bluetooth device. the computer won't boot when its plugged in, but runs fine when its up and running. Could this be because the power is off on the HUB until the computer is turned on?

I've seen that problem before.. I delayed power to the hub for a few seconds & it booted & detected no problem....

is that drive a dvd burner?... they use a lot of power through usb.... my slot load dvd burner has this problem...

No, just a slim dvd drive, not a burner. Thanks, i'll try the delay.
