try connecting a monitor to the VGA connector on the back. if it shows an image the onboard vid is bad.

The others (cpu/memory) are a little more difficult to test.

i tried the vga monitor and ram and it still brought up the white screen on the laptop lcd with both

This laptop possibly is dead, and not worth saving.

Edit: After thinking about it a little more there is one other thing you can try. When you hooked up the external monitor you have to hold down the "Fn" key and press the "f7" key (well thats the keys for my thinkpad, might be slightly different) This will cause the external VGA port to become active

If nothing happens then I say just sell it for what ever you can get out of it

i tried the Fn+F7 (it's the monitor one) and it didnt work

First things first....did you buy it this way, or did it just quit one day?

if you know the history, that can sometimes help solve the mystery.

it was given to me, i think it has been dropped

may have good luck by opening it up and reseating any connectors and connections. The way lappy's are built, things can jiggle out of place pretty easy, wouldnt doubt a hard enough drop could dislodge an old card style cpu (mmc-1/mmc-2). I have seen it done (read "I have done it!" lmao) so its always worth a try. No cost but time

i took it apart, it didnt look like it was in very good shape but everything was seated well
